"Babe" is a vocal past British electronic music grouping Clean Bandit featuring Welsh vocaliser Marina and Puerto Rican vocalizer Luis Fonsi, released as the fifth unmarried from Make clean Bandit'due south second album, What Is Love?, on 2 November 2018.[ii]
"Baby" is Marina's commencement unmarried where she is not credited as Marina and the Diamonds, a phase proper name she had used on prior releases. It is included on her quaternary studio album, Love + Fear. A version without Fonsi appears on the anthology's vinyl release.
Composition [edit]
Baby is composed in the key of C modest. Lyrically, the song deals with a love triangle, with the vocalist telling somebody that they are "already someone else'southward".
The song has a tempo of 117 beats per infinitesimal, and has a fourth dimension signature of common time. It also features a complete descending circle of fifths, which propels the music forward throughout the circumvolve of fifths and back to C pocket-size.
Promotion [edit]
On 29 Oct 2018, the group announced the release on Twitter and shared its cover art.[2] On 2 November 2018, the group performed on BBC Two's Strictly Come Dancing: Information technology Takes Ii.
Critical reception [edit]
Mike Wass of Idolator called the preview of the vocal a "sultry banger that already sounds like a hit", proverb Marina "coos" the line "Merely I'm already someone else's baby" over Clean Bandit'southward "seductive, Latin-tinged business firm beats".[3] Billboard labelled "Babe" a "flamenco-infused track", opining that Fonsi'south verse in Spanish provides information technology with a "distinctive Latin flare".[four]
Music video [edit]
Clean Bandit as well released the video on YouTube on 2 November 2018.[5] The video features Fonsi, Marina, Grace Chatto, and Australian singer Starley.[six] Chatto portrays an unnamed bride who marries Fonsi'southward character as it is revealed via flashbacks that she had a thwarted relationship with another adult female — now a hymeneals guest — while attention summertime campsite.[vii]
